Stephen Brecken

Stephen Brecken joined GEMS Cambridge International School – Dubai as Principal/CEO in the summer of 2022, having first started at GEMS Education in 2017 and previously led The Cambridge High School – Abu Dhabi

Stephen began his career in 1993 as a PE teacher in the UK and today has accumulated close to three decades of diverse experience delivering education, with the last 17 years serving in senior leadership roles. Most of his career has been based in the UK, where he worked as a Headteacher of a secondary school before moving to Abu Dhabi in 2017 and quickly progressing from Vice Principal to Principal.

Stephen holds a Masters of Education (M.Ed) in Education Leadership and Management, a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed), as well as National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH).

Above all, Stephen values honesty, trust and respect as key to running a successful school, and these core values have served as the foundation for his growth both on a personal level and as a distinguished leader in education.
