Year 9 and Year 12 are two of the most important years in the academic life of students as they set the path towards their chosen career. But whether the chosen path brings success for a student or not depends very much on the choice made of subjects at this stage.
Parents/Guardians and teachers, no doubt, play a major role in guiding young child’s choices. But it is a concern to know that statistics have shown that 42% of 18-30 year olds believe they took the wrong educational path.
GCSE and A levels need not to be the only education route that leads to university or a successful career.
Therefore, in September 2009 we introduced BTECs. These are Edexcel courses which are based on continuous assessment rather than an end of year examination. These courses are 100% coursework. Exams work well for some students, but others find them rather daunting. The BTEC course also includes opportunities for work experience and real life case studies. BTEC is built around the needs of employers and allows progression to university. BTEC has been in operation for 25 years and is becoming popular among students due to its flexible nature. In just the UK alone more than one million students enrolled on a BTEC course in 2008/2009.
Therefore, we would be delighted if you can spend some time browsing these information files, so that you may perhaps look at your child’s career in a different way than in the past. This may bring them more chance of ultimate success in their chosen career path.
